Conditions of Confinement

We regularly intervene on behalf of our clients to help them negotiate these challenges. We also seek transfers between facilities on behalf of our clients when appropriate.
Clients sometimes face issues related to their health, safety, and overall wellness. We work to address these challenges through advocacy related to access to medical and mental healthcare, harassment and violence, and solitary confinement.

We also provide assistance through the Client Support Fund (CSF). Many of our clients do not have access to enough food, proper clothing, shoes, medical devices, bedding, toiletries, and/or other basic necessities during their incarceration. This can have a negative impact on their health, safety, and overall well-being. Additionally, many clients do not have family or friends who can provide these items for them. The CSF allows CAL to purchase these important items. The CSF also provides some assistance for a short duration after our clients return to their community. This support may include covering some basic necessities, in addition to transportation costs associated with job interviews and medical care. If you'd like to help our clients, please click the Donate Today! button below to donate to the CSF.
