About CAL and the IT Administrator Position

The Center for Appellate Litigation (CAL) seeks to hire an IT Administrator for its New York City office. CAL is a fifty-attorney, non-profit public defense law firm dedicated to fighting injustice through exceptional advocacy and enduring compassion for every client. We represent indigent New Yorkers convicted of crimes in Manhattan and the Bronx in their criminal appeals and other post-conviction proceedings.

The IT Administrator will manage all technology at CAL under the supervision of the Assistant Attorney in Charge. Experience in systems administration functions with a focus on Windows Servers, Office 365, VMware, Cisco Adaptive Security Appliances with FirePOWER Services , AnyConnect VPN, Duo, Trend Micro Virus Protection products, Avaya IP Office, SQL, and Microsoft Azure is critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities:

Monitor and maintain Windows computer network and related systems including on-site and remote servers, VPN, routers, desktop computers, scanners, phone system, and other physical hardware;

Implement, maintain, and enhance Microsoft Office 365, including Teams, and Active Directory environments;

Install, test, and migrate new software and upgrade software for all products after creating a plan;

Maintain required operating-system security; including virus protection software and implementation of multi-factor authentication for remote connections to keep data and communications protected;

Monitor data backups;

Configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot windows computers for in-office and remote work;

Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network printers and scanners;

Work with hardware and software customer support to solve problems;

Share technical and functional expertise with others as required;

Monitor systems to improve network performance for computer systems and networks;

Communicate networking issues to other employees and management, especially in training new users;

Create documentation of processes and configurations;

Maintain detailed equipment log;

Perform help-desk-type troubleshooting of hardware and software for end users; engage and work with contractors as necessary;

Create and maintain Windows and Office 365 user accounts;

Keep up to date with advancements and best practices in IT administration and make recommendations to management for improvements;

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or equivalent, strongly preferred;

At least 2 years’ experience as an IT Administrator or equivalent;

Extensive experience with IT systems, networks, and related technologies;

Solid knowledge of best practices in IT administration and system security;

Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills;

Excellent time-management, planning, and interpersonal skills;

Ability to work independently and follow through on tasks;

Must have the ability to work effectively with end-users of various levels of technical comfort and sophistication, gain their confidence, understand their technical and operational needs, and translate them into viable technical solutions;

All employees must be current with Covid vaccination requirements;

This position may require occasional weekend hours for off-hours troubleshooting and upgrading.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with experience. Starting salary will be at least $70,000. Excellent benefits, including 27 paid vacation days per year, an employer SEP-IRA pension contribution, and a free healthcare option with additional employer HSA contributions, are provided.
