Part-Time Books Beyond Bars Intern

Share

The Center for Appellate Litigation (“CAL”), a non-profit public defender office handling appeals and other post-conviction matters, is seeking a part-time, unpaid intern for our Books Beyond Bars Project starting immediately.

Founded in 2016, the Center for Appellate Litigation’s Books Beyond Bars program has sent over 10,000 books to people in prisons and jails across New York. BBB’s mission is to ensure that anyone who is incarcerated in this State has access to any book they want or need, whether for education, self-empowerment, personal growth, or simply a brief escape from the dehumanizing effect of incarceration.

The internship will involve assistance with:

  • sorting and packaging book orders
  • submitting letter requests from clients
  • shelving and maintaining our library

The intern will work in person at our Wall Street office. We are seeking someone with bi-weekly availability.

Interested applicants should email booksbeyondbars@gmail.com stating their availability and reason for applying. CAL particularly welcomes applications from people of color; people with disabilities; and gay, lesbian, and transgender people.
